Clarence Chancey Thornton, son of the late Chancey and Frances Thornton was born February 17, 1946. Funeral services were held on May 15, 2018 at the Minor B. Eggleston Chapel, Farmville, VA. Place of internment was the Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, VA.
Clarence joined Monroe Baptist Church at an early age. He attended Prince Edward County Schools until the schools closed in 1959. Clarence went on to serve in the United States Army where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Sharp Shooter 1st Class Gunner. He continue to serve his country by joining the Virginia National Guard.
Mr. Thornton was joined in Holy Matrimony to Cynthia Lockett and from that union two sons were born.
He is preceded in death by his wife Cynthia, brother James and sisters Bessie Carter and Louise Sprague.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sons Andre Lockett and Lennie Thornton, brother John (Alice) Thornton, nieces Nannie and Rosa Sprague; nephews James (Vivian Sprague) and Herbert (Iris) Sprague; granddaughters Ananda, Aniya and Kamali; twin grandsons Jacoby and Jaleel, and a host of great nephews and nieces. He also leaves a special friend, Hazel Williams.
