Apostle Alvin Watkins Obituary

Apostle Alvin L. Watkins was born on April 3, 1954, in Meherrin, Virginia to the late Robert Watkins Jr. and Betty Mae Davis.  He first found his service to the Lord at Forest Baptist Church in Meherrin, Virginia, where he was Baptized and served under the leadership of Pastor C.L. Jones.  

He received his early education through the Prince Edward County School System and was amongst the first integrated class.  Later, he attended Augusta Technical College where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Accounting.

A man of Service, He enlisted in the United States Army in in 1974.  His service lasted until 1993, where he retired at the rank of Staff Sargeant.  His service included a host of positions and carried him to numerous duty stations around the world.

In 1977, while serving at Fort Gordon/Eisenhower he met and fell in love with his Wife, Lessie Mae Watkins.  They Married in September 30th, 1978 in Augusta, GA.  They have 6 children: Donald, Stephanie, Myron(Deceased), Kimberly, Alvin(Jr.), Stephen.  Their marriage has stood the test of time with the couple being a model of Faith, Family, Marriage, Love, and Commitment.

After his military service he served as an Accounting Clerk for the Medical College of Georgia.  After leaving, He accepteda position with Transportation Security Administration where he served as the General Manager of Security for the Augusta Regional Airport and Columbia Regional Airport.

An active worker within the Body of Christ, Alvin served in various compacities that included Chairman of the Deacon Board, Chior Member, Finance Ministry for Crawford Missionary Baptist Church(Augusta), Mt. Sinai Baptist Church(Tacoma), Brotherhood Ministry of the Gospel Hour Service(Zweibruchen), Little Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church(Clarksville), Pioneer Outreach Church(Augusta).  Ordained in 1999, he assigned to his first Pastoral position in 2002 when he was sent to Pastor Frazerville Baptist Church.  Given a vision and mission from God, He Founded New Zeal Outreach and Ministry, INC., and on The First Sunday of August in 2008, he conducted the initial service and dedication.  

Apostle Alvin Watkins embodied the word of God in Genesis 1:28(28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”), leaving a tribe consisting of his ever-loving Wife(Lessie M. Watkins), 5 remaining children(Stephanie, Tony, Myron*, Kimberly-Clifford Jones, Alvin Jr.-Kateria, Stephen-Benita), 20 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren, 2 Aunts(Patricia D. Walton-Baltimore, Lorene Boyd-Jersey City), 3 remaining Sisters(Leola Bailey, Reverand Pauline Stokes, Wanda-Clyde Roberts, Lecretia Walker*-Thomas Walker), 4 remaining Brothers(Robert L. Watkins*, Adolph D. Watkins, Samuel D. Watkins-Fiancé Chris, Joseph E. Watkins-Gail, Stuart J. Watkins), 3 Brother-In-Law(Cordy Hobbs-Delphina, Lawrence Hobbs*, Charles Hobbs-Wendy), Sister-In-Law(Ruby Hobbs), and a host of Nieces, Nephews and Family to carry on his work and memory.
