Bernice Alice Wingo

On Saturday, February 17, 2024, the Lord called our beloved Bernice Alice Carter Wingo, affectionately known as “Bunch” home. She was born in Prince Edward County on May 25, 1933, to the late Preston and Lottie Street Carter. She joined High Rock Baptist Church at an early age and attended until her health began to fail.

Bernice graduated from R. R. Moton High School in 1952, and was united in marriage to Alexander N. Wingo on December 27, 1952. to this union there were 4 children: Barbara, Alexander, Jr.,
Perry and Linda. She loved gardening, working in her flowers and working in tobacco in her early years. Bernice worked in her husband’s country store and later delivered the morning newspapers for Richmond Times Dispatch for 32 years; which she loved and talked about all the time. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander; parents, Preston and Lottie; brothers, James, William and Arthur; sisters, Virginia Maclin and Josephine Ghee.

She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Barbara; sons, Alexander, Jr., and Perry (Marie) and devoted daughter, Linda Lee (Chris); grandchildren: Jonathan, Nicole, and Kian; sister-in-law: Doris Powell, and brother-in-law, Harry (Claretta) Wingo, John Wingo and Franklin (Carol); a special cousin, Beulah Venable; a special friend, Gracie Holloway and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
