Catherine (Fowlkes) Thomas

On July 27, 2020 at Heritage Hall, Blackstone, VA, Catherine Fowlkes Thomas went home to be with the Lord.  Catherine was born on July 3rd to the late Inda Fitzgerald and Baker Fowlkes in Blackstone VA.  At an early age Catherine was baptized and joined the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.  Catherine had a lovely voice, she sang in the choir until her health failed her.  She was also a Missionary and Superintendent of Education.  Catherine attended elementary school in Nottoway County and graduated from the Old Nottoway Training High School.  She continued her education and graduated from Union University with a degree in teaching.  Catherine taught school at Watson Elementary in Crewe, VA and Luther H. Foster High School, Blackstone, VA.  Catherine taught school for over 30 years.  Catherine met and married William Thomas and to this union their were no children.  He preceded her in death in 1994.  Catherine had one sister, Virginia Fowlkes Williams whom also preceded her in death (April 2010).  Catherine leaves to cherish her memories, many many cousins and lots of students she taught.  Catherine was very quiet, soft spoken and never got angry about anything.  She had a beautful smile and was a "Christian lady."  We will miss her at our family reunions and just visiting her.  Catherine, God blessed you with 94, now it's time for you to take your rest.  The Family
