Corey Johnson-Kimbrough Obituary

Corey Hasson Johnson-Kimbrough was born to Sabrina Lester-Johnson and the late Rindell T. Kimbrough on December 23, 1998 at Beth Israel Hospital in Newark New Jersey. He departed this this life on May 1, 2022 at 12:30pm at Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, Virginia. Corey grew up in Newark NJ and attended Peshine Ave School. Corey was a member of Little Faithful Christ of God Church where his grandparents Elder James and Evangelist Estelle Johnson were pastors. Corey later relocated to Virginia and attended Prince Edward County Elementary, Middle and High Schools. Although he did not transfer his membership, he often attended church at Mt. Lyle Baptist Church where he loved to hear the late Pastor Wyatt Vaughan preach and sing.

Corey affectionately known as “Chunks” was a dedicated son, brother, nephew, father, and friend. He always wanted to make sure his mom was taken care of. He also served as a surrogate father to his siblings. He looked out for them and was more than a brother. They were best friends. If you know “Chunks” you know he “Loved his Mama’s fried chicken” and he loved his Pittsburgh Steelers. He also loved his son “Khy”. He said that being a father was his greatest achievement and brought him so much pride. Corey worked a few jobs but was best known for his time at Southside Hospital in Farmville, where he worked in environmental services. Corey was very well respected, admired and loved by the staff there and he felt the same for them. He was a kind and respectful young man with a quiet spirit and authentic heart. Corey brought joy, comfort, and peace to anyone whom God placed within the arc of his love. He will be missed and will always remain in our hearts. Corey was preceded in death by his father, Rindell Kimbrough, and his Grandparents James and Estelle Johnson.

He leaves to Cherish his memory one Son, Khyson Johnson-Kimbrough, his mother Sabrina Lester-Johnson, one sister Krista Johnson-Kimbrough, two brothers, Christopher Johnson-Kimbrough, and Bryan Willis Jr, Grandmother, Anita Kimbrough, and Step Grandfather James Daughty, Aunts Jamie, Shanelle and Shanice Johnson, Michelle (Tony) Alamin, Toni(Jarret) Hindsman, Mary and his (Uncle Eric) Jackson, Avona and Pamela Kimbrough, Dominique Lester, Uncles Charles Kelly, Markieth and James Kimbrough, Khalif, Lamar and Timothy Lester, three nieces Sariya Roberts, Gianna Love and Melani Johnson-Walker and one nephew Ka’Saii Kimbrough. A host of great aunts and uncles, many cousins and friends. A special friend Kareemah Etta Sa-mone Oumar. Special cousins that he grew up with as siblings are Zyir, Deonte, Elijah, Kamesha, and Bridgett. Close friends include, Malik Hurt, Trevin Bowles, and many others. Corey was an organ donor and was called a Hero by the staff at Lynchburg General. Corey will always be remembered for his smile and his big heart.
