Cornelia Romania Hughes

Mrs. Cornelia R. Hughes, age 74, of Farmville, VA, entered enteral rest on Monday, April 10, 2023 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Cornelia or as known by most “Pinky,” was born in Eccles, West Virginia to the late William Hale, Sr. and the late Margaret Louise Stovall Walker. She later moved to Virginia at the age of 5. At the age of 14 she married the love of her life, the late Joseph Hughes, Sr. and to this union they were blessed with 8 children. Pinky joined Organ Hill Baptist Church in Drakes Branch, VA and later joined New Bethel Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member till her death. Pinky was a stay at home mom and wife for 15 years before entering into the work force. She was employed with the Prince Edward County Public School System, where she retired from after 35 years. Pinky continued working at the Goodwill in Farmville and at the Habitat . She also was a daughter in the Man- hattan Temple#184. Pinky enjoyed music, she loved dancing and her favorite movie channel was “Lifetime.” She made the best yeast rolls, her potato salad was always requested at gatherings. She was a devoted wife and loving mother who raised her children to rely and lean on God through any situations. In spite of what she was going through mother continued to say “God is Good.”

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Joseph Hughes, Sr., a brother William (Bill) Hale, and grandchildren: Vantoine, Ceciely and Akeem. She is survived by eight children: Jacqueline Colbert, Cheryl Branch (Arnell), Joseph Hughes, Jr., Yvonne Hughes, Lisa Wright (Tyson), Tyrone Hughes, Sr. (Towanda), Tonji Braxton (Matthew), and Tiffany Hughes. Eighteen grandchildren: Capri Jones (Michael), KiAndre, Vater Jr. (Catena), Coronda, Alicia, Stephanie, Latasha, Leslie, Tylisha, Tyasia, Brenda, Tyrone, Jr., Kenneth, Kentuan, Ke- nonji, Tymire, Tyliyah, and Micah; Seventeen great-grandchildren; Step-Father, Albert Walker, Sr. ; One special devoted sister, Frances Hale-Wade of Ossining, NY; and 6 brothers: Larry Wade, of New York; Lonnie Walker (Geneva) of New York; Albert Walker (Patricia) of South Carolina; Thomas Walker (Lucretia) of Georgia; Eddie Walker of North Carolina; Kenneth Walker (Tina Yang) of New York; Jamond Seymore, step-brother of VA and Patricia Walker, step-sister of Ohio; and a special niece Violet “Vickie” Hale of New York and a cousin like sister Earnestine Smith of Farmville, VA; and a host of nieces and nephews cousins and friends.
