Evelyn Antionette Saunders was born on March 10, 1952 in Green Bay Virginia to the late Carl and Mary Bigelow Saunders. Her only brother Carl preceded her in death in 2019. Evelyn was the mother of one son Roy Antonio who passed away in 1993. She was a great, loving and caring friend to all she met, never a stranger to anyone. Evelyn graduated from Prince Edward High School in 1971, and immediately went to work. Evelyn's culinary skills allowed her to work in Williamsburg VA for several years. Upon returning to Prince Edward County, she continued to cook for family members, friends and the community. She was "well known" for her peach and apple cobblers and many other delights. She always made herself available to others in their time of need. It was often suggested to her to slow down. Her remark was, "I'll sit down when I get tired." Evelyn was a member of New Store Baptist Church in Buckingham VA, but she did frequently visit other churches in Prince Edward. Those of us who knew her, loved and cherished her, will always remember Evelyn as a true missionary. She thought it was her job to take care of others and never asked for anything in return. She leaves her love and memories to the following: sisters Elizabeth Bostic (Bobby) of Alexandria and Iris Spragues (Herbert) of Farmville, granddaughter: Jasmine Saunders and great grandson: R.J. of Charlotte North Carolina, Best Friend: Shirley Barksdale and niece: Latrese (Wayne) all of Farmville VA.
If we knew it would be the last time seeing you, hearing your laugh, or seeing your smile, we would have hugged you a bit tighter and longer. But we respect the benediction of your earthly life. We will always remember you, Evelyn from ALL of YOUR COUSINS!
