Obituary

Gloria “Christy” Marshall, passed on her eternal reward on April 24, 2023. Gloria was born on August 29, 1942 to William McCalvin and Carrie Thomas in Brooklyn, New York. Gloria spent most of her life in Brooklyn, New York and relocated to Prince Edward County in 1999. While in New York, she worked as a housekeeper, office worker and a real estate agent. She met her husband Otis Marshall in 1985 and married in 1986. She took pride in raising her four children and making sure they had everything they needed. The oldest of four, not only was she a leader, but was also the glue that kept the family together. Her home in Brooklyn became the place where friends and family would gather for all occasions. She was an active daughter in the Elks in New York and in Farmville, Virginia. She loved spending her quiet mornings reading her weekly installment of Our Daily Bread and reflection on her day ahead and she loved attending the local gospel shows throughout Virginia.

After watching her favorite game show, Wheel of Fortune, she stayed true to her daily 7:30 pm call with her daughter Frances. Her daughter still living in Brooklyn would spend most of her free time traveling to Virginia to spend quality time with her. On Saturdays, Gloria, Otis and Frances would jump in the car and head to Chesterfield where they would spend the day shopping or grabbing a bite to eat. Sundays would be filled with gospel music and her daughter in the kitchen cooking. Gloria cherished every moment she shared with her family.
Gloria is preceded in death by her daughter, Jacqueline Koonce, her son, Thomas Christy; her sister, Iris McCalvin, her brother, William McCalvin and her parents.

She is survived by her daughter Frances Christy, her son, Dennis Christy, her husband, Otis Marshall; her sister, Carol Coleman and grandson, Gabriel Koonce; She is also survived by her favorite nephew Ike Coleman, his wife, Toya Coleman, his seven kids, and his sister, Victoria Coleman, along with her three children. She is also survived by many friends including her best friend Helen Joseph, her four kids and grandchildren along with the entire Stiff Family.
