Hazel Benetta Scruggs Clark 83, of Plainfield, NJ gained her angel wings on September 20, 2022. She was born in Cumberland County, VA on December 19, 1938. She later moved to New Jersey where she was blessed with one daughter, Carla Denise and loved by her grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately called her Gaga.
Hazel obtained her high school diploma from Luther P. Jackson High School and continued her education by acquiring an Associate's degree in Social Work from Passaic Community College and left a legacy as a master seamstress and social worker at North Jersey 4C's where she retired in 2016 after over 30 years of service. Hazel was king and very talented, and a woman of strong faith who taught us the importance of family, hard work and admirable strength and courage. She lived a full and warm life, filled with joy. Those of us who were blessed to be touched by her understand that her existence and the imprint she left on our hearts will be fondly remembered and forever missed.
Hazel was predeceased by her parents, John Henry and Mabel Scruggs and her brother, Walter Scruggs. She is survived by her daughter, Carla and son in law Derrick Sr. (Plainfield, NJ), grandchildren: Danielle Alysse Reyes (Josue) Woodbridge, VA, and Derrick Jr. (Plainfield, NJ), one great grand-son: Giannis Reyes, her two sisters; Catherine Carter (Farmville, VA), and Theresa Lawrence (Nutley, NJ), her sister in law: Beulah Scruggs (Hampton, VA), one aunt: Mary Scruggs (East Orange, NJ), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and acquaintances.
