Deacon Henry Franklin Hurte (Scott) departed this life on Friday October 22, 2021 at his home. He was the son of the late Edna Hurt Mason and stepson of Alexander Mason. He was born September 19, 1933 in Crewe, Virginia. Henry was raised by his grandparents, Reverend William H. Hurt and Virginia Marshell. At an early age Henry was baptized and joined the New Bethel Baptist Church.
Henry attended the Nottoway County Public Schools, Mt. Zion, Watson and Luther H. Foster High School.. Henry joined the US Army and served for 22 1/2 years. He retired as a disability veteran after serving in Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the Army, Henry relocated to Richmond, Virginia. He was employed at US Government Bellwood for 20 years.
In 1963, Henry married Deloris Fowlkes. To this union, they have two children, five grandchildren and one great grandson.
Moving on with life, Henry relocated back home to Crewe, VA. He rejoined New Bethel Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon. Henry was employed at the Oliver & Eggleston Funeral Home for 30 years.
Henry loved God, his church, and his family. If he could help anyone he would do it with a smile. He will be missed by his family, and community and all the people that loved him.
Henry leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 58 years, Deloris F. Hurte; one son, Alexander Hurte, Sr. (Cathy) and one daughter, LaCora Hurte; Five grandchildren: Alexander Hurte, Jr., Alauna Ailstock, William Davis, Demetruis Davis and Sophia Hurte. One great grandson, Kaiden Davis and a host of cousins, family members and friends.
