Hortense Scott-Miller Obituary

Hortense Cornelia Scott-Miller was born in September In Green Bay, VA.  She was the youngest of 13 children, born to Richard Scott and Agnes Harrison-Scott.  She departed this life January 2, 2020 in the presence of loved ones following a lengthy illness of Alzheimer's disease.  Hortense was baptized and joined Mt. Zion Second Baptist Church in Green Bay, VA at an early age.  Hoertense attended R.R. Moton School.  In 1947 after marrying Joseph Truly Miller on December 24, 1946, they moved to Baltimore, MD.  She joined the Southern Baptist Church in 1951.  Then in 1981, Hortense and her family returned to Virginia after her husband, Truly retired.  She was deaconess from 1981 to the onset of her illness.  Hortense was active in the church choir, senior missionary circle, secretary for the Sunday School for 20 years and was in charge of preparing communions for 20 years.  She served on numerous food committees.  Hortense was a wonderful wife mother and cook.  She loved her family.  Hortense was proceeded in death by; her husband Joseph Truly Miller in 2013,and her grandson Donald Lee Allen in 2015.  She is survived by her children Joseph Henson of Baltimore, Marcia Smith (Leonard) of Virginia and Anthony Ray Miller (Sharron) of Virginia, 4 grandchildren Kevin, Jonathan, Solan and Shannon 5 great grandchildren, numerous step grandchildren and step great granchildren.  She leaves to mourn her passing a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
