To be present from the body is to be present with the Lord. Irene Estelle Taylor transitioned from the earth to glory on Monday, October 25, 2021 at Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, VA. One of fourteen children, Estelle was born on January 28, 1946 to the late Elmore and Irene Hurt of Prince Edward County. At a young age, she confessed her faith and joined Bethel Grove Baptist Church. She attended the Robert Russa Moton School, in Farmville, VA. In October of 1966, she fell in love and married Robert J. Taylor. To this union they were blessed with six children.
Estelle worked at Stackpole, Inc. for many years. Later in life, she started babysitting in the community. She worked for the Farley family in Rice, VA; Elizabeth Taylor of Farmville, VA and for Jennifer Walls of Farmville. She loved these children as if they were her own.Before her health began to decline, she loved going to church. She served as President of the Usher Board, the Missionary Auxiliary, and the Food Committee. She loved spending time with family and friends and “loved” talking on the phone. She was known for making the best potato salad and cabbage.
Estelle was preceded in death by her husband Robert Taylor; Parents Elmore & Irene and her 6 siblings, James, Elmore, Earl, Rosa and Daisy and 1 son-in-law, Leon Smith.
She leaves to cherish 6 children, Robert of Meherrin, VA, Larry of Farmville, VA, Phyllis Smith of Green Bay, VA, George of Green Bay, VA, Kenneth (Janifer) of Meherrin, VA, Wayne of Farmville, VA. 3 sisters, Shirley Tucker of Rice, VA, Josephine Brown (George) of Cumberland, VA, and Christine Randolph (Irving) of Buckingham, VA. 3 brothers, John Hurt (Mattie) of Buckingham, VA, Ernest Hurt (Josephine) of Rice, VA, George Hurt (Cynthia) of Lynchburg, VA. 7 sister-in-laws, Laura Hurt and Barbara Hurt of Farmville, VA, Irene Hurt and Mary Anne Hicks (Charles) of Rice, VA, Josephine Dove (Tim) of North Carolina, Ruby Holman of North Carolina, Nannie Taylor of Boston, MA. 2 brother-in-laws, Paul Taylor (Edith) of Hampden Sydney, VA and John Stokes of Rice, VA. 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
