James Tyrone Lee was born in Farmville, VA on November 26, 1955 to George McKinley Lee and Phyllis Jean Baker Lee. At an early age, he accepted Christ and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church. After graduating from Prince Edward County Public Schools in 1975, James moved to Richmond, VA and began working at Sherwin-Williams Automotive Services, where he was employed for over 35 years. On January 25, 1988, James married Laverne Baker. The two did not have any biological children but took Malik Jones into their household and raised him as their very own. James enjoyed riding his motorcycle and loved being around family and friends. James was preceded in death by his parents: George and Phyllis Lee; his brothers: Gilbert Lee and George “Stew” Lee; mother-in-law, Mary C. Baker; and brothers-in-laws: Lawrence Skates, Fred Goubile, Joseph Baker, Ernest Baker, and Thomas Baker.
He is survived by his wife, Laverne Lee; five siblings: Clarence Lee (Cheryl) of Farmville, Carolyn Skates of Farmville, Shirley Washington of Rice, Linda Goubile of Farmville, and Joyce Copeland (Daniel) of Cullen; brothers in-laws: Roy Baker (Kitty), and Stanley Baker (Jacqueline); sisters-in-laws: Helen Baker, Mary Baker, and Margaret Wright; one uncle: Clarence “Jimmy” Baker of Farmville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; special nephews, Monteza Copeland and Lawrence Harvey; special niece, Starell Lee; and special friends: James Baker and Patricia Scott.
