I love you so much

Kate Green was born on June 27, 1928, in Nottoway County, Virginia and the
sunset for our beloved mother was on January 28, 2021.

She and her twin brother, Calvin Beverly, was the youngest children of Master and
Nancy Beverly. She was preceded in death by her 18 brother and sisters, whom she
loved and admired.
She attended Nottoway High School, and during that time she worked at
Bradshaw’s Restaurant. On May 15, 1956, Kate Beverly married Pleasant Vincent
Green in Burkeville, Virginia. They later moved to New York City and made it their
new home where they had and raised their children. Kate was a homemaker all her
life, and she truly loved taking care of her home and family, which she did well into
her 90’s. During her time in New York, she cared for her children and had many
“non-related” grandchildren who she cared for throughout the years. She also
loved and appreciated all of her nieces and nephews who always visited and called
to check on her well-being and also just to say hello.
We will all remember the Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings, and especially
the Sunday dinners. During Sunday dinners, we would listen to my mother’s
stories and her funny jokes. Her home was always welcoming to family, friends,
and friends of friends. All were welcome to grab a hot meal. Her philosophy on
family was that we should always stick together and look out for each other. She
even mentions this in the poem that she wrote many years ago which is included in
this program.
Kate leaves behind many nieces, nephews, friends and also an abundance of family
to cherish her memory. She leaves behind her beautiful children: Nancy Carter,
Pleasant V. Green Jr., (Mercedes), Yolanda James (Alex), Florence Green-Zelaya
(Luis), Randy Green (Pamela), Rita Green (Lawrence), and Lisa Green. She also
leaves behind 15 beautiful grandchildren: Reta Saunders-Reed, Cassandra
Saunders, Angela Saunders, Paulette Saunders, Ericka Brown, Latasha James,
Randy James, Alex James Jr., Jamal James, Jah-king James, Tina Zelaya, Melissa
Zelaya, Skye M. Green, Autumn Green, and Lawrence Tyndale Jr.; and 27 Great-
grandchildren: Reginald Gaston, Kayla Lennen, Karter Baker, Moises Prado,
Morgan Prado, Jayden Brown, Jamal Saunders, Joseph Jr., Rakeem Davon,
Dashawn Raheem, Ja’Quan Donta, Chikirya Saunders, Tyvonn Saunders, Omarion
Allen, Keshawn Saunders, Charles Carter, Kenyatta Carter, Devin Allen, Journey
Krislyn Scott, Gabrielle Scott, Jayvion Clarke, Logan James, London James, Lalah
James, Gavin James, Eleana Johnson and Alex Gooden; and 6 Great-great
grandchildren: Khalil Saunders, Demaryis Ramsey, Zion Tai’heim Watkins,
Jakirah Saunders; Cameron Saunders, and Ja kobi Saunders. We will not forget
those who have preceded her death, her beloved daughter Dorothy Saunders and
granddaughter, Deborah Newton.
We will always have our mother, grandmother, auntie in our hearts forever.
