“Then Jesus answered her; ‘O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire’....” Matthew 15:28
On April 4, 1935 Madison C. Rather and Pearl Pauline Campbell Rather received a double blessing, and one, they named Kathleen. On September 10, 2023, Kathleen peacefully transitioned to the arms of Jesus, from her home, where she was surrounded by loved ones. Kathleen was educated in the public schools of Nottoway County-Watson Elementary and Luther H. Foster High School. She was baptized and joined Union Baptist Church at an early age.
She relocated to Brooklyn, New York where she lived until she retired. While in New York, Kathleen was employed by Manhattan Beach Hotel and Wyckoff Heights Medical Center Hospital. She became supervisor in the Housekeeping Department and was a shop steward for SEIU Local Union 144. After 22 years of service at Wychoff Heights Medical Center and 40 years of faithful membership in Local 144, Kathleen retired ( 1997) with her husband, and moved back to their hometown, Crewe, VA. Kathleen, affectionately called Kat and Kitty Kat had heart of gold and was loved by all who knew her. She loved to cook, and fed any and everyone who came to her door. Sometimes she would carry plates across to the ballpark to make sure they ate. She was known for her famous hot rolls and pigs feet, which we will miss. She was united in holy matrimony to Willis S. Love, the love of her life, and was a loving and devoted wife for 59 years. To this union, one son was born, Junious Wardell Love. Both Willis and Junious preceded her in death.
Kathleen leaves to cherish her memories: Five sisters, Shirley R. Allen of Washington, DC; Gloria R. Love and Natalie R. Robertson of Crewe, VA; Diane R. Ford (Harold) of Fort Washington, MD; and Doris L. Foster of Brooklyn, NY; two brothers, Joseph (Valerie) Rather of Abingdon, Maryland; Lawrence (Mary) Rather of Washington, DC; a sister-in-law, Delois Rather; a brother in law, Clarence Jackson both of Crewe, VA; an aunt, Bessie Ransom of Farmville, VA; one godchild, Albert Crawley Jr. of Brooklyn, NY; and a host of devoted and loving nieces and nephews and cousins. Her a long time friend, Ms. Francis Knight and her adopted daughter Nettie Williams also treasure her memories.
