Katie Marie (Banks) King was born on December 16, 1923 in Charlotte Court House, Virginia. She was the second of nine children born to Joseph Baker Banks and Laura Irene Daniel Banks. She departed this life on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. She accepted Christ at an early age at Hope Presbyterian Church. She attended school in Charlotte County and later migrated to East Orange, New Jersey. There she graduated from Kean College with an LPN degree in Nursing. She was employed in the nursing field for over 32 years, some of those years at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair and Greystone Park State Hospital in Morris Plains. She attended Metropolitan Baptist Church of Newark, where she met her husband “Bob.” Bob was later called into the ministry. She then became a faithful member of the Gravel Hill Baptist Church of Newark, where her husband Reverend Robert H. King was the founder and pastor. At Gravel Hill she worked in several ministries: the Nursing Guild, the Senior Choir, and the Pastor’s Aide. Upon returning to Virginia, she joined the Triumph Baptist Church under the leadership of her husband. At Triumph she became a member of the Deaconess and Choir ministries. She later joined Mercy Seat in Hampden Sydney, VA under the leadership of her son-in-law Reverend Walter Fells.
She was affectionately known as Aunt Kay-Kay, Aunt Kate or the Queen. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was loved her family and friends and will be missed by all.
Katie was preceded in death by her husband Reverend Robert H. King, her parents, brothers: Reverend Russell B. Banks; Pernell A. Banks and Stanley L. Banks; Sisters Willie B. Hendricks, Marybell Barrett and Rosa Lee Wiliams.
She is survived by her daughter: Jacqueline (Rev. Walter M.) Fells of Chesterfield, VA; Sister: Lucy A. Douglas, Somerset, New Jersey; Brother: Jesse W. Banks of Lynchburg, VA; Sister in-law: Daisy Banks of Los Angeles, CA; Granddaughters: Stephanie Dodds and Lisa Clayton; Great-grandchildren: Alivia and Elijah Clayton of Leavenworth, KS; Nieces and nephews: Beverly Williams, Clifford Williams (Debbie), Obery Hendricks (Farah), Michael Williams (Kim), Linda Motley (Dennis), Evette Banks, Gloria Irvin (Gene), Alisa Douglas, Christopher Banks (Ana), and Renee Goodwin (Al). Two devoted friends , Mrs. Martha Morton and Mrs. Grace Moton.
