Laura Bowles our beloved sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and friend, peacefully entered into eternal life to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 9, 2026 at The Woodland Assisted Living Facility in Farmville, Virginia. She departed this life surrounded by the love and memories of family and friends. She was born January 19, 1947 in Farmville, Virginia to Freddy and Mary Gilliam. Laura loved shopping, cooking meals for family, and riding out to see the countryside. She worked at Longwood University food service. Laura was a loving and caring person and was outspoken when it came to what was right. Cleanliness and hygiene were TOP priorities in her house, and she made sure we all knew it! Nobody ever left her house empty-handed, because she simply would not allow it. Whether it was food, money, advice, or just love she always had something to give. She cared deeply about people. Laura was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings Richard Gilliam, Alice Solomon, Freddie Gilliam and Barbara Holman. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted siblings: Brenda Wright, Linda Gilliam, Vernette Green, Arcille Trent, and her brothers Mervin Gilliam (Rose) and Willie Miller. Laura was the loving mother of eight children. She was proceeded in death by her son Franklin “Bo” Bowles. She leaves behind her children Quincey (Brenda), Terrence, Jewell, James, Otis (Towanna), Kemsy (Valerie), and Aijuel who will continue to honor her legacy and keep her memory alive. In addition, she will be remembered by her sixteen grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Laura will be remembered for her strength, love for family, and the lasting impact she made on all who knew her.
