Linda D (Hurt) Hawkes

God in his infinite wisdom called our beloved Linda Diann Hurt Hawkes to eternal rest on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Saint Mary's Medical Center in Richmond, VA.  Linda Diann Hurt Hawkes, daughter of the late William and Bertha Hurt was born on August 1st in Crewe, VA and was the fifth of seven siblings.  She was baptized at an early age at the New Bethel Church in Crewe VA. where she remained spiritually connected to until the end.  Linda attended Watson Elementary School and later graduated from Luther Hilton Foster High School in June 1970.  It was there that she met her future husband, Clifton Allen Hawkes, in a loving relationship that lasted 46 years.  They were blessed with a wonderful daughter Kristin DeVonne and recently a dear and precious grandson,Donovan.  She attended Saint Paul University in Lawrenceville, VA, and VCU in Richmond, VA and received her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.  There she was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.  She also briefly studied Social work at Howard University in Washington, D.C.  Linda worked throughout her entire life as she dutifully supported her husband during his medical and military career.  She retired from the United States Justice Department in 2009, during which time she received numerous awards including recognition from the Attorney Generals Office.  She was a caring loving and selfless angel who only cared about the well-being of her family.  Her beauty and spirit transcend any earthly understanding.  Linda leaves to cherish her memories: husband and life partner, Clifton Allen Hawkes, daughter Kristin DeVonne, grandson Donovan Lamar; mother in law Alice Hawkes; brothers Carmichael Hurt, Walter Hurt (Barbara), Curtis Hurt, Sr (Alice), Charles Hurt (Inge), sisters Lois Fitzgerald (Emmanuel) and Irma Harris; Novella Pailen (Jonas); brother in laws Adolphus Tyrone Hawkes (Judy), Dennis Hawkes (Sheilia), Michael Hawkes (Lynn); sister in laws Alicia Carter (William) and Deitra Jennings (Kevin), and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and classmates.
