Lorenzo Dickerson Obituary

Born May 13, 1938 to John and Mary Dickerson in Cumberland County, VA.  Lorenzo was the youngest of 9 children.  Like his brothers and sisters, he too grew up on a farm with plenty of chores to do.  At the age of 12 he joined Rocky Mount Baptist Church and accepted Christ.  After most of his siblings left home, he too decided to follow in their footsteps and headed for the city.  He made his first stop in Baltimore.  Maryland where he worked at Sparrow Point.  He later moved to Newark, New Jersey where he initially worked for an ice cream factory.  he later became a bus driver for New Jersey Transit until retirement.

Although he loved his two chicken wings, two biscuits and apple pie, Lorenzo truly loved his 2 daughters, 2 grandsons, and 2 granddaughters.  2 seemed to be the magic number.  Lo, as he was affectionately called, was a great dancer and loved music of all genres, particularly Sam Cook and The Mighty Clouds of Joy.  Wherever he went, people were always happy to see him arrive with his big joyful smile, especially his grandchildren.  He would go out of his way to make you feel comfortable.  Among the countless things, Lo will be missed for his style and hospitality.

Daughters: Augustine "Cookie" (Stephen) Cameron of Ponte Verda, FL, Lawanda Freeman-Turner of Jamestown, NC
