Mattie Moseley Johnson was born January 12, 1944 to the late Gladys Moseley Thomas and Junius Miller of Farmville, VA. Mattie departed her life on Sunday, August 19, 1018 at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Thomas, father Junius Miller, stepfather, James Thomas, Brother James Thomas, mother-in-law, Mary V. Bartee and father-in-law Edward Johnson.
Mattie was raised in Farmville, and at an early age she moved to Newark, N.J. after the closing of the schools in Prince Edward County. She attended Scotts College of Beauty where she received her cosmetology license. She worked as a wig and hair stylist for many years. She attended Robert R. Moton High School and later received her GED in Farmville, Virginia. Mattie ultimately retired from Farmville Walmart. She was a faithful member and usher of Jericho Baptist Church (formerly Race Street Baptist Church).
Mattie leaves to cherish her memory her faithful husband, Terry W. Johnson; stepchildren: Terry Terrell Johnson, Meikus Tisdale, Jessica Jackson, and Lee Edward Johnson; sister: Ruth Moseley, brother Frank Moseley (Rita), both of Farmville; sisters-in-law, Mary E. Manns of Cumberland, VA and Cora Cook (James) of Farmville; brothers-in-law: George E. Johnson Sr. (Virginia) of Farmville and Vincent H. Johnson, Sr. of Richmond, VA; aunts, Loveline Faggins of Farmville, Elsie Cham of E. Orange, NJ and Roberta Ferguson of Cumberland, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
