Phyllis Shuler

Phyllis Lorraine Shuler was born September 14th in Prince Edward County, Virginia to the late Pearl Ollie Miller and Daniel Wilson Hicks. She departed this life on June 5, 2020 at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. She was baptized at Mt. Zion 2nd Baptist Church at an early age and remained an active, devoted member until her death. Phyllis served Mt. Zion 2nd Baptist Church as a trustee and choir member, along with numerous other positions throughout her life. Phyllis attended R.R. Moton High School until the closing in 1959. After the school closings, Phyllis moved to Philadelphia, PA with family and later went on to graduate from Prince Edward County High School in 1964 upon the re-opening. On June 2, 1976, Phyllis married Kenneth Shuler, of Darlington County, South Carolina. This union in marraige was blessed with one son. Phyllis was employed by Centel Corporation/ Sprint as a Telephone Operator in Farmville, Virginia until her retirement in 1997. Phyllis later went on to be a substitute teacher for the Prince Edward County School System. Phyllis was a light wherever she went and was known for her sweet and vibrant personality. Phyllis was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Wilson Hicks, and mother, Pearl Ollie Miller. Phyllis leaves to cherish her memories one daughter and one son, Tina Booker and Anthony Shuler; one step-son and step-daughter, Derek Shuler (Vertina) and Tonia Shuler; seven grandchildren, Ashley Shuler, Ricky Shuler, Amber Shuler, Jesseca White, Kayla Shuler, Jarmal Joyner Jr., and Richelle Booker; two brothers, Harold Hicks (Lillian) and Joseph Hicks (Frances); and many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
