Shirley Maxine Mayton

Shirley Maxine Mayton was born on July 29, 1957, in Prince Edward County, Virginia, to Mrs. Dorothy Woodard and John Woodard, Sr. Shirley Mayton departed this life at the Mount Sinai Hospital West, in New York, New York, on October 8, 2023.

She confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior and was baptized at the Peaks Baptist Church. She graduated from Prince Edward County High School in 1975. Shirley had various talents, passions, and she was a history buff on world news and family genealogy. She married Mr. Mac Mayton in August of 1977, and they moved to New Jersey and had a daughter, Valeisha Mayton. Later in life, after divorce, she experienced a second love with Mr. Keith Walbrook and had a daughter, Shonda Walbrook, and goddaughter, Chitara Waiters. Shirley moved to Bronx, New York, where she worked and raised her family and became a long-term resident of New York, and she made so many friends in New York. A very rare disease, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, attacked her body and left her with paralysis, which she battled.

She was preceded in death by stepfather, Edward Walker; sister, Pamela Walker; nephew, Dwayne Woodard; She leaves to cherish her memories, mother, Mrs. Dorothy Walker of Farmville, VA; daughters, Valeisha Mayton of NJ and Shonda Walbrook of NY; grandchildren, Tyheem James, Carter Hurtado, and Madison Hurtado; siblings, Sharon Woodard of MD, Iris Woodard of VA, John Woodard of MD, and Norman Woodard of VA; nieces and nephews, Monique Kyle, Octavia Johnson (Chris), Brandon Lawson (Erika), Shanee Walker, Kye Walker, Zachary Woodard, Nathan Woodard, and Alisha Woodard; and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special thank you to her cousin Geraldine (Mickey) Saunders for being a loving and dear friend.
