Shirley David Saunders passed away on December 9, 2021. He was born in Nansemond County, VA on April 5, 1933 to the late Solomon David and Lydia Darrah Saunders. Graduated from Nansemond Training School, drafted in to the Army, attended A & T University, Greensboro, NC; retired from the Army and retired from Tran America after 30 years of service.
Shirley met the love of his life, Arlene Delores Fowlkes-Saunders, and they were married for 65 years. He was a member of Tussekiah Baptist Church, Trustee and attended Sunday School every Sunday until his health failed him. He was a member of the VFW, Masonic Lodge #187, and Buckingham Hunt Club.
He is preceded in death by his parents Solomon and Lydia Saunders, two brothers, Roland Saunders and Leroy Saunders; three sisters, Evelyn Oakley, Rose Fitzgerald and Irene Hoffler.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Delores Saunders, one daughter: Veda Saunders-Walters (Ronald Walters); one grand-daughter: Danielle Walters; one great-nephew: Amir Saunders; one sister: Helen Tandy, West Palm Beach, FLA and many nieces, nephews and friends.
